Old World Shellac has a simple mission: to provide affordable, high quality shellac.
As woodworkers, we fell in love with the look and feel of shellac. We love that shellac is natural. And we love how our work is rewarded well when we finish with shellac.
De-waxed shellac flakes are also a perfect vehicle for storing finish. Flakes keep for years in cool dry environments. And you can mix up a fresh batch of finish at any time.
Shellac's virtues, though, didn't stop it from hurting at checkout. But quality doesn't have to hurt - Old World Shellac has top notch shellac flakes at half the cost of some comparable quality shellac.
Why Shellac?
Old World Shellac started with a love of natural finishes and a fervent dislike of paying too much for them.
Shellac flakes are a natural, renewable, totally non-toxic product (when mixed with alcohol), collected as a byproduct of insect life cycles. It produces an unparalleled mirror finish, but is flexible in the ability to finish at multiple sheen levels.
What’s not to love?
Well, usually the price is not to love. We started Old World Shellac to make the highest grades of shellac flakes available to woodworkers, at reasonable prices. And we think we’re darned reasonable.
